12/22/2014

Spending the holidays in Downtown Miami ensures a neon-lit, toes-in-the-sand, sun-on-the-skin celebration that can be as vibrant and invigorating as it is relaxing. Miami is a city that completely transforms for the holidays and truly embraces the spirit of the season from all angles. What follows are some highlights that help make Miami the perfect holiday destination.

The Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts

Alongside the dynamic rise of new condos in downtown Miami, the city’s art and music scene has experienced a creative explosion over the past decade or so. Known for lively stage shows, especially during the holidays, The Adrienne Arsht Center downtown is a favorite destination for those in search of uplifting seasonal entertainment. For the 2014 season, the Arsht Center is hosting “The Colors of Christmas” featuring musical performances by Taylor Dayne, Peabo Bryson, Ruben Studdard, and Jennifer Holliday. From December 18ththrough the 24th, the Miami City Ballet will perform The Nutcracker at the Arsht Center as well.

The Food

Miami’s culinary prestige has blossomed over the last few decades as the city has become very much a foodie haven. During the holiday season, many restaurants around the area feature themed meals or specially prepared dishes. Italian restaurants such as Cavalli and Cecconi’s in The Soho House, for example, offer traditional Italian holiday dishes at Christmas. Meanwhile, seafood specialties and much more are featured in the extensive Area 31 Christmas Day buffet, while the sophisticated yet inviting bistro Tongue & Cheek hosts a holiday-themed brunch featuring its popular New American cuisine. For an elegant evening out, upscale Villa Azur extends its popular Thursday Night Dinner Party concept to include a Christmas Dinner Party featuring a truly memorable six-course celebration. With festive dining options like these and much more in eateries throughout the region, it’s clear the culinary community of Miami fully embraces the holiday season and all it has to offer.

Relaxation

You can choose from a vast array of lively and engaging activities in Miami during the holidays. However, if the idea of getting away from the chaos of everyday life in search of the ever-elusive deep breath seems more appealing, the Magic City also has you covered. Home to many of the most renowned spas on the planet, Miami offers plenty of opportunities to spend the holidays enjoying spa treatments and massages. Luxurious spas such as ESPA and Lapis offer every premium service under the sun, with the latter even featuring a special holiday rejuvenation package available only in December. And if spas aren’t your thing, relaxing and listening to the waves crash on the shore of Miami’s beaches isn’t a bad alternative.

Santa’s Enchanted Forest

Whether you reside in one of the new Brickell condos or are just visiting Miami for the holidays, a trip to Santa’s Enchanted Forest is an absolute must for the kids—the place is well, in a word, enchanting. Get into the Christmas spirit as you stroll past the holiday lights and displays, and then add a little fun and excitement to your outing with a series of amusement park rides designed for adults as well as kids to enjoy. Santa’s Enchanted Forest also features entertainment as well as classic amusement park cuisine in a swirling holiday carnival that’s sure to put a smile on even the most bah-humbugged of faces.
